Psychotherapist
CO
I am a dedicated health psychologist providing personalized, evidence-based care with a focus on supporting individuals' self-empowerment through clinically meaningful care. From my training in behavioral medicine across major hospital settings, I offer unique specialization for individuals impacted by cancer, such as illness-related distress, adjustment, coping, and posttraumatic growth. I particularly serve women's concerns during cancer, which may include negotiating psychological challenges inherent in identity, purpose, self-compassion, body image, fertility, and more. I am a passionate clinician who provides a self-empowering and relationally-focused therapeutic setting integrated with principles of behavioral science. I view the patient-provider relationship as the cornerstone of high-quality care, and in turn, prioritize partnering with patients to ensure the treatment experience is aligned with their needs and values. Patients I serve may expect comprehensive and personalized care over telehealth, as well as responsive and reliable communication in a supportive environment. Telehealth is intentionally utilized to increase access to care throughout geographic areas and to both accommodate and protect immunocompromised individuals. Broadly, I serve adults experiencing mental health challenges connected with physical issues to promote a holistic, mind-body approach to well-being. I particularly focus on cancer-related distress across diagnosis, active treatment, and post-treatment, and predominantly serve women and young adults. Concerns I often care for include anxiety, stress, psychological adjustment, coping, self-esteem, and self-worth in the context of health issues.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I strongly value providing affirming and transparent communication throughout each session and the overarching course of care. I am an active provider during appointments, which exercises my personal and professional priority of creating a genuinely collaborative therapeutic experience that I believe lends to the patient's personal growth and meaningful self-knowledge. I became captivated by the mind-body connection as a competitive ballet dancer early in life, which in time informed my interest in writing, reflecting on, and intellectually considering the concept of whole-person well-being. I studied creative writing in my undergraduate coursework at the University of Washington in Seattle and wrote for the student newspaper, and in time realized my pursuit to apply my literary and health interests into clinical practice and conduct research. An assistant research role at a women's health study revealed my draw toward women's issues at the intersection of psychology and medicine, which was a catalyst for becoming a clinical health psychologist. The intergenerational impact of cancer in my own family system informed my interest in behavioral oncology and influenced my doctoral dissertation examining rural cervical cancer survivors' gender role experiences. Clinically, I carefully integrated my passion for women's health through rotations at major hospital systems that felt underscored by parallel research efforts in psychosocial oncology. In culmination of these formative milestones, my postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Cancer Center solidified my mission to become a clinical health psychologist with specialization in women's cancer psychology.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer a personally tailored yet clinically flexible approach to address patients' needs and goals while holding a commitment to the clinical integration of behavioral science. To provide high-quality and scientifically informed clinical health psychology care, I apply evidence-based interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and meaning-centered psychotherapy (MCP) integrated with mindfulness and self-compassion. The first appointment with me is focused on rapport building, carefully listening to your story, and learning about how I may best support you. In this appointment, I consider how we might partner together to promote meaningful change and life improvement over time, aligned with your unique value system. I believe having humility as the provider is especially critical in this information gathering phase, as well as recognizing the patient's strengths and personal resiliency factors early on. By the end of the first appointment, I am hopeful that patients feel genuinely supported and confident in the benefits that my psychological care may provide for their well-being.
