Peter Smick, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Peter! My name is Peter Smick, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. I specialize in depression, anxiety, and relational trauma. Through my integrative approach, I will assist you in discovering your own path to inner peace and forging healthier relationships. My approach My integrative approach combines Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Internal Family Systems (IFS); and Attachment-Based Trauma Therapy. Healing begins with establishing a safe space and a relationship grounded in trust and collaboration. This allows for compassionate attachment repair; tending to soul wounds; re-establishing Self with attention to the inner child; coping skills that emphasize mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, acceptance, and change; and an emphasis on self-discovery and self-acceptance. My focus I work with adults and adolescents who seek healing from inner wounding, often due to complex and developmental traumas, relational conflict, bullying, and more. My communication style I am insight-oriented, collaborative, person-centered, and relational in my approach. My journey to mental healthcare I worked in entertainment for many years, and the impact of social media on that industry at large and on the human brain specifically was eye-opening to me. There is a lot of relational damage waged in the digital space (cyberbullying) and at the same time, it is a popular destination for its promise of connection. I am pursuing this path to help clients find true connections, with self and others. My goals for you I meet clients where they are at and collaborate in setting goals. My first session with you Getting acquainted, understanding a bit of the client's history and presenting struggles, and establishing rapport.
