Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Philip! Philip Urbina, LCSW. My approach is that of someone who is here for the journey of your personal emotional growth. We all deal with different stressors and pressures we place on ourselves. I want to help you take the weight off and find a safe place to heal and move forward. I focus on depression, anxiety, life changes, and bereavement. My approach I use a humanistic approach of no judgment, sprinkling in logotherapy, which is finding meaning, and motivational interviewing. I also use cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-focused therapy. My focus I work with clients who have traumas from physical abuse, sexual abuse, discrimination, and more. I am most comfortable with anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, and loss. My communication style I create an environment that works for my clients. I am flexible. Some want quiet, calm sessions; some want to make jokes in difficult situations—I’m good with both. I like to go where you want to go. If it’s serious, I’m good with that; if it’s more relaxed and informal, that’s fine as well. My journey to mental healthcare I grew up a first-generation Latino in a poor neighborhood. I saw many people dealing with loss, immigration issues, families being separated, family and friend loss, and struggles to avoid bad habits. Seeing my community go through that and being exposed to so many issues got me interested in helping my community and others dealing with stressful situations in silence. My education I earned my Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Northridge. My goals for you I like to set treatment plan goals with the client and discuss what they want to see as a difference in one month and at the end of therapy. My first session with you We will create a plan of goals and discuss what brought you to therapy. Then, we will explore important information from your past or current situation that may be contributing to where you are now.
