Roxana Chavez, LCSW

Roxana Chavez, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Roxana Chavez, and I hold a Clinical Social Work license along with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. I earned my Master's in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach. I have an eclectic approach to therapy; however, the most common approaches I use are humanistic with a social justice lens, as well as highly psychodynamic. My focus areas have primarily been youth in K-12 experiencing depression and anxiety, as well as adults who self-identify as victims of domestic violence. I would like to work with young adults and middle-aged clients, preferably those facing challenges with anxiety and depression, since that is the population I have worked with most. I am also interested in working with self-identified victims of domestic violence and Spanish-speaking clients. My communication style is initially serious but non-presumptuous. I want clients to feel from the start that I take their concerns and mental health seriously and that with me, it is a safe space to be 100% transparent about their problems. I also bring high curiosity to sessions and ask many questions from the beginning. My journey to mental healthcare was inspired by my own challenges with mental health as a youth, combined with a natural fascination with human behavior and a strong desire to engage intentionally with others in a constructive way. When setting goals, I ask many open-ended questions about symptoms and behaviors, then directly inquire what clients would like to achieve through therapy. Together, we make that their goal, ensuring it is a SMART goal before moving forward.
