Sally Press, LPCC

Psychotherapist
CA
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with specialized training in somatics. I’ve provided individual and group therapy in different community-based settings since 2018. My priority in therapy is building on your strengths. I hope to support you to be authentic, connect with your communities, and access your creativity. Therapy is very personal and can reflect your unique needs, whether that’s sharing about a past experience, strengthening social-emotional skills, or a combination of the two. I’m passionate about somatics, a style of therapy that brings awareness to the nervous system, the automatic responses our bodies have to stress. This can be especially healing for those with trauma, allowing you to move through your past challenges. I sometimes integrate art and skills practice depending on your needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clients have diverse experiences and seek to make changes where they’ve felt stuck, while acknowledging systemic barriers. I often support folks in strengthening their self-awareness, confidence, and communication skills. I offer a few different types of sessions. Evening sessions by telehealth can be convenient for individuals in other parts of the state. For those local to Ventura County, I offer walk-and-talk sessions, which can be beneficial if you feel more comfortable outdoors than in a therapy office or a video call. I also offer sessions specifically for bands and creative collaborators. I’m kind while direct in my communication. I ask questions to help you explore your experience, hold space for reflection, encourage taking breaks when needed, and speaking bravely when you’re ready.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I assess your needs and provide choices for different paths towards mental health goals. From there, we'll work together to set the pace and structure of therapy. Sessions with bands and creative collaborators may focus on themes including group dynamics, communication, strengthening relationships, and getting creative needs met. The first session helps us both get a sense of what you need from therapy. I ask questions to get to know who you are and what you hope to change in your life. I’ll also share more about my style of therapy and some possibilities for how future sessions might look. Sessions with bands and creative collaborators can start with assessing the unique needs of the group and establishing shared goals.
