Getting to know Sarah E Smith

Sometimes, we feel stuck in our lives. Whether you are going through a divorce, starting a new career, transitioning to or from college, or coping with a death, these changes can leave us feeling unable to manage uncertainty and regulate our emotions. I am here to listen with an open ear and heart—without judgment, but with compassion and support. Coming to therapy can be an intimidating first step, but it can lead to life-changing results. I will be your sounding board. Together, we will identify and navigate unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors that get in the way of living a life aligned with your long-term values. Therapy is a place to provide tools that help you develop coping skills, regulate emotions, and decrease overall distress in a safe space. Whether you are in therapy for two years or two months, I want you to be well equipped to weather any life challenge with a sense of ease and confidence. I believe in being transparent with my clients and providing realistic, in-the-moment feedback. I want you to feel as comfortable as possible and leave each therapy session feeling like you gained insight or a skill you didn’t have before. Ultimately, my goal is for you to feel empowered and to utilize the skills you learn in therapy throughout your life. I hold a Master’s degree in Applied Counseling Psychology from the University of Baltimore and earned my Bachelor’s degree from George Mason University.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
