“I have just started with Dr. Barber, but our first and second sessions were good ones. She’s personable and easy to talk to and in two short visits I have taken things from each one. The zoom meeting was easy to join and the emails they send before hand help you understand how it all works. There is an auto follow up appointment so be aware of that. I wasn’t, but reviewing emails, they notified me. I just missed it. It worked out though, I was available and also in need.”

Getting to know Dr. Sherille Denise Barber

Hello, my name is Dr. Sherille Barber, and I am a licensed clinical counselor in North and South Carolina. I have worked in the mental health field for over 35 years, primarily utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients reach their optimum potential in life. I work mainly with individuals battling depression, anxiety, and trauma-related issues. I hold a PhD in Advanced Studies of Human Behavior from Capella University, an MEd in Counseling from Winthrop University, and a bachelor's degree from Winthrop University. My approach is eclectic, aimed at maximizing clients' healing potential. While I draw from various methods, I primarily use Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Behavioral therapy emphasizes actions, while cognitive therapy focuses on how thoughts influence feelings and behaviors. As a cognitive therapist, I help clients examine thought patterns and identify negative belief systems that contribute to distressing emotions and behaviors. I typically work with adults, couples, and families facing relationship challenges often related to communication styles. I also support adults struggling with depressive and anxiety symptoms, as well as disorders such as Bipolar Disorder and trauma-related conditions. I believe the counseling environment should be welcoming, with a proper greeting and a light, easy atmosphere. My tone is comfortable and relaxing, with minimal distractions-no phone interruptions or outside disturbances-to ensure privacy and confidentiality in a non-threatening, non-judgmental space. My journey into mental healthcare was inspired by a relative who needed counseling for substance abuse and likely PTSD or Bipolar Disorder but never received help. In the 1970s, mental health support was not as recognized or accessible as it is today. This personal experience fuels my commitment to providing compassionate, effective care.
