Susan Shafer, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NC
Hi there, I'm Susan! My name is Susan Shafer, and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. I provide a calm, non-judgmental space to explore concerns and struggles. My specialty areas include the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and depression. I earned my MEd in Counseling from Clemson University and hold a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech. My approach For the first twenty years of my practice, I primarily utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and have since developed a strong passion for mind/body therapies, specifically EMDR and IFS. I have seen amazing results using these modalities. My focus I work with adults aged 18 and up. I have done extensive work with young adults and appreciate the growth mindset this population tends to bring. I also have significant experience with middle-aged and older adults and enjoy the diverse perspectives and life experiences they offer. While I am most comfortable treating trauma, anxiety, and depression, I have gained experience addressing a wide range of struggles over the years. My communication style Clients often describe me as calm, compassionate, and open. I never tell you what I think you should do because I believe you already have the answers within. Instead, I work with you to explore whatever may be blocking your clarity or confidence. I partner with individuals rather than directing what I think is best.
