Susan Yoshida, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Susan! When experiences in past or current relationships interfere with present-day happiness, therapy can be an invaluable resource in helping to get unstuck. I strive to establish a trusting and comfortable working relationship with my clients as part of their journey in healing. My approach I am primarily an EMDR therapist and believe that past experiences can be used as a resource in helping individuals to honor their strengths and resourcefulness that contributed to having survived hardships. I incorporate psychoeducation, mindfulness practices, and somatic processing to build healthy coping strategies and resolve past traumas. My focus The quality of our relationships makes all the difference in what makes life meaningful, fulfilling, and joyful; not just those relationships with important others, but also the relationship you hold with yourself. I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced abuse and trauma in their childhoods, family relationships, and with their intimate partners. I work with individuals to resolve relationship obstacles and learn new practices where they can feel competent in being loving towards others, practice loving themselves, and learn to feel deserving of being loved for who they are. My communication style It’s important to me that our work together is collaborative and effective. We will identify goals of treatment, course correct when needed, and most importantly, we will measure if our work together is working. I tend to provide a good amount of psychoeducation so that my clients understand what is happening in their treatment, and this allows my clients to be more empowered in their healing as well. My journey to mental healthcare I wanted to become a therapist because in my favorite stories – in real life or through TV, movies, or books, I saw how a supportive person who is on our side can be a powerful influence, and I wanted to be honored to play such a role in others’ lives.
