Suzanne Merz-Reno, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Suzanne! My name is Suzanne Merz-Reno, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Oakland. I offer telehealth services throughout the state of California. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults and specifically enjoy serving LGBTQIA+ individuals and those with chronic pain. I earned my Master's in Social Work from California State University, East Bay. My approach As a clinical social worker, I am trained to look at the individual through the lens of the systems they are part of and from an attitude of cultural humility. I often teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills to support coping and self-regulation. To address the root of my clients' challenges, I predominantly utilize Internal Family Systems and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. These approaches support self-compassion and help create new meanings and beliefs related to adverse experiences in life. My focus I typically work with individuals who have tried talk therapy without much success in symptom reduction and need additional support connecting the mind, body, and spirit. I work well with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and those who have experienced attachment trauma. My communication style I strive to create a comfortable, non-judgmental space and use curiosity to better understand my clients' challenges and goals. I sincerely believe that the client is the expert in their own life and will guide my clients to their internal wisdom. When appropriate, I use humor and self-disclosure to further connect with my clients. My journey to mental healthcare Since a young age, I have always been drawn to helping others. My own experience with therapy in the context of treating chronic pain and increasing self-acceptance has led to my training and expertise in treating trauma and supporting self-compassion in my clients. It is an honor to witness and be present with each individual I work with.
