Getting to know Thomas Hayes

Hi there, I'm Thomas! My name is Tom Hayes, MA, LPCC. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at National Louis University. I was originally licensed in Illinois, where I practiced for more than 20 years in various therapeutic environments, including unhealthy relationships, anger, and substance abuse. Upon relocating to California in 2016, I secured a California license and opened a private practice focusing on adult men and women with mood disorders, anxiety, substance abuse, and relationship issues. I subsequently relocated to Florida, where I now engage in teletherapy with California residents. My approach I was trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) in grad school. I also use ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which I find very helpful in managing anxiety in today’s world. My focus I provide individual and couples teletherapy with adult males and females experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and life crises. My communication style I believe it’s critical to establish a trusting, non-judgmental, confidential environment. I want clients to know I am listening and able to empathize with their issues. I also aim to create a comfortable environment where a sense of humor is important. My journey to mental healthcare I began therapy in my 40s for life issues I was unprepared to handle. Therapy was very helpful and led me to change my career focus, enter graduate school, and complete my master’s degree in professional counseling. The process was enlightening, and I realized I could help others learn and practice skills to manage their lives healthily. I continue to enjoy my work and helping others. My goals for you I use worksheets to help clients identify what they value in life and what is important to them.
