Timothy Wheeler, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
Hello. My name is Tim Wheeler, LPC, and I am a Clinical Therapist living near Aspen, Colorado. I provide Individual Psychotherapy, Family, and Couples Therapy. My approach I use an eclectic approach to therapy, utilizing many different modalities depending on the needs of the client. My approach includes, but is not limited to: CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Experiential, Psychodynamic, Brief Solution-Focused, Narrative, Gestalt, and Reframing. In Couples therapy, I utilize Gottman’s approach. My focus I have enjoyed working with clients ages 4 to 94 years old. I work with all kinds of diagnoses, with no demographic being outside my scope of practice. I often work with children, teens, adults, and families who have experienced trauma. I enjoy advocating for and treating clients who are struggling with gender identity or LGBTQ+ issues. I work with people experiencing high levels of anger, anxiety, and depression. I love working with couples in therapy, whether married or in premarital sessions. I also work with children, teens, and adults who struggle with Substance Use Disorder. I have worked with children and teens who aren’t neuro-typical, including those with Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Developmental Delays. I enjoy having a very diverse clientele. My communication style I try to make therapy as casual as possible, with a lot of honesty from the heart. I think the therapeutic relationship is extremely important to the therapy process. My journey to mental healthcare I was an Executive Chef in fine dining establishments for almost 20 years. I really enjoyed helping my staff with their real-life problems, like SUD and couples issues. After a horrific car accident left me unable to be on my feet for the rest of my career, I decided to go back to school to become a counselor. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Tech University. I found that I enjoyed helping the staff more than I enjoyed cooking the food.
