Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Travis! My name is Travis Fortenberry, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in California. I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from National University. I have been fascinated with depth-oriented therapy, narrative therapy, and humanistic/existential therapy techniques as tools to connect with my clients in my practice. Along my journey, I have received multiple trainings in mindfulness, dreamwork, sandplay therapy, and other holistic/alternative approaches to support my clients. My approach My theoretical background is rooted in many concepts from Carl Jung and Carl Rogers, along with their contemporaries. I am especially fascinated by the work of modern thinkers Thomas Moore and James Hillman. In sessions, I focus on client dreams and narratives, using many elements of Moore’s and Hillman’s theoretical frameworks to help my clients explore their inner worlds. My focus I have had rich experiences during my practicum and internship, working with diverse age and cultural groups facing various challenges. I currently work with clients aged 18 to 100. Many of my clients experience grief or spiritual and/or artistic crises that manifest in their dreams and affect their waking lives. My ideal client is willing to devote most of our time together to processing and exploring their dreams, reflecting on the dreamworld with an open and curious mind—without the pressure of reaching a final interpretation. Some familiarity with depth-oriented psychology can be helpful but is not required. My communication style I create a relaxing and friendly environment during sessions. I want clients to feel emotionally and intellectually engaged without anxiety about doing the “correct” or most productive thing. I also enjoy incorporating creativity, spontaneity, and counterintuitive approaches to offer alternative perspectives and create a unique conversational experience.
