Tyler Williams, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Tyler Williams, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s in Social Work from the State University of New York, Buffalo. My approach to therapy and healing is rooted in person-centered and trauma-informed perspectives. Cultivating mindfulness, increasing emotional intelligence, and identifying solution-oriented goals are hallmark tools in my practice. I tailor my therapeutic approaches to the individual, drawing on elements of Psychosocial Development, Social Learning, and Psychodynamic theories throughout my career. My preferred interventions include Trauma-Informed CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused and Mindfulness techniques, and commitment therapy. I have been fortunate to work with individuals across the lifespan, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation in inpatient, outpatient, community-based health, and forensic settings. Across these experiences, my respect for the client’s self-determination remains the common denominator. I focus on empowering clients by providing the tools, skills, and knowledge to help them operate at their highest functioning. Choice and informed consent are hallmarks of my practice. I view psychotherapy as a partnership between therapist and client. A common analogy I use is Driver’s Ed: you are in the driver’s seat, and I am here to guide and provide tools, skills, and information. Every session begins with me asking, “How can I be of help today?” as a reminder that the client is the expert on their life and in charge of their future. My journey to therapy began while studying social work in my undergraduate program. I fell in love with psychology and sociology courses and realized that social work and therapy allowed me to put these concepts into practice. Choice and collaboration are key principles of trauma-informed care. I will always ask clients about their hopes, desires, and preferred outcomes to ensure their experience is aligned with their goals.
