Getting to know Wandalyn Lane

My name is Wandalyn Lane, I am an LMFT, and I have provided mental health services for over 20 years. I earned my Bachelor's degree from National University. My approach to therapy is solution-focused as well as empathy-based. I enjoy working with the entire family to build a healthy family unit. My approach I believe that the individual, couple, or family coming to therapy must lead their work. I engage in the process using Brief Solution Focus, CBT, Family Systems, Narrative, Experiential, and other approaches. My focus I have worked with individuals from 18 months to 75 years old. The majority of my experience is with pre-teens and teens. For the past 10 years, I have worked with adults and couples/marriages. My experience includes helping individuals work through trauma, depression/anxiety, relationship issues, and feeling stuck in life. My communication style I inform individuals that they are in a safe place; as the saying goes, "people don't care what you know until they know that someone cares." My goal is to help the individual be aware that he or she is the most important person in the room. I create a space of calm, peace, and comfort. My journey to mental healthcare I grew up watching my grandmother care for disabled adults, which imprinted a helper’s heart in me. I realized I did not want to pursue becoming a medical doctor, so I put my mind, energy, and resources into the field of psychology. I have worked with troubled youth and various community programs serving children and adults. I went back to school to obtain my second Master’s degree to become license-eligible. I stayed focused and reached my goal of becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist. My goals for you After engaging with the individual through questions or simply listening, I ask what their desire is for coming to therapy. I incorporate client-centered interventions to work toward those desired goals.
