Whitney Gatling, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NC
Hi there, I'm Whitney! My name is Whitney Gatling, MS, LCMHCS. Therapy is a journey, and I am a facilitator, poised to go on the journey with you. My dream is to elevate women and veterans, support the mental health journey of underserved populations, and foster growth and healing with each encounter. Together, we will forge new paths that enable us to attain all of our goals in life and celebrate those accomplishments. My approach I believe every individual has the potential to live a fulfilling and purposeful life. My approach centers on helping clients cultivate self-awareness, identify their values and goals, and create actionable steps toward achieving them. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore their inner world and work toward their desired outcomes. I often utilize CBT as a foundation and integrate specialized training such as EMDR, IFS, and Positive Psychology. My focus I typically work with veterans (including Special Operations Forces), women in life transitions (motherhood, retirement, career change), and college students (especially senior year and graduate school). I am most comfortable working with PTSD, anxiety disorders, and adjustment disorders. My communication style I tailor my approach to each individual. I am a direct communicator but also compassionate, knowing when to filter and when to be direct. I have a welcoming demeanor, and people often feel comfortable with me quickly. My journey to mental healthcare I'm the daughter of two Army Veterans, a native of Fayetteville, NC, and a trauma-trained therapist who has worked with the military community through research and psychotherapy for 15 years. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and my Bachelor's from Fayetteville State University. Working in mental health has been my plan since high school, and I am happy to say I do not feel like I work every day.
